CMAA Announces 2019 Class for College of Fellows

CMAA members are nominated and selected in recognition of their demonstrated leadership in the industry, their significant contributions to the profession, the industry, the association, and their commitment to the future. The FCMAA designation is the highest honor CMAA can bestow on an individual member and this year’s honorees are no exception.

“These two individuals were selected for their contributions to the success of CMAA, their dedication to CMAA’s core objectives, and their commitment to the future of the organization,” said Robert Fraga, AIA, FCMAA, Chancellor of the CMAA College of Fellows. “I look forward to their future success and to the new perspectives they bring to the College’s work.”

The College of Fellows seeks to represent a diverse community of industry leaders who lend their knowledge and insight to the strategic issues facing the industry and the construction management profession, identifies and assists in the development of future leaders, and takes an active role in supporting the mission of CMAA.

Immediate Past Chair of CMAA Board of Directors Chris Payne Named President and Chief Operating Officer of MBP

Fairfax, VA – Immediate Past Chair of the CMAA Board of Directors Christopher Payne, CCM, has been elected President and Chief Operating Officer of MBP.

Chris Payne imageChris joined the firm in 1993 and has risen steadily through positions of increasing responsibility. Prior to being named President, he served as MBP’s Chief Operating Officer. Chris has more than 30 years of experience in construction management and design, performing a wide variety of services including construction project management, inspection, CPM scheduling, and cost estimating. He has specialized experience in the resolution of construction disputes to include analysis of delays and expert testimony, both nationally and internationally.

As President and Chief Operating Officer of MBP, Chris will continue to manage the day-to-day operations of the company, drive firm process and performance improvements, and provide direct oversight of all corporate support teams.

This election, which took effect on April 18, 2019, is another step in the thoughtful transition of MBP’s ownership. As part of this transition, Blake V. Peck, CCM, PE, will remain in his position as Chief Executive Officer, and Charles E. Bolyard, Jr., CCM, will continue to serve as Chairman. Both remain actively involved in the firm’s business including client project work, strategic planning initiatives, client relationships, and mentoring.

Tim Murchison is New Chair of CMAA

Murchison has more than 40 years’ experience in construction management and design and has served on the CMAA Board of Directors since 2013. In assuming this leadership position, Murchison said, “CMAA is an organization with a strong sense of mission and purpose and I am honored to have a role in advancing its objectives.

“In the coming year, we will continue to advance our association and profession – promoting professional construction/program management, building on partnerships with allied organizations, and increasing awareness of our CCM certification program.”

Parsons, Massport to Receive CMAA Industry Awards

McLean, VA, USA – The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) is pleased to announce that Parsons and Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) have been chosen to receive industry excellence awards.

Parsons will receive the 2018 CMAA Chair’s Award for Safety. This award recognizes a CMAA member firm (owner or service provider) for their record of commitment to safety and a culture of safety education on all projects during the past calendar year.

As part of their commitment to a safe environment, Parsons provides their integrated safety, health, and environmental management system to teaming partners, and offers practical solutions for deploying it. The result is successful projects that meet or exceed expectations, where safe work is integrated.

Massport will receive two honors: the first is focused on sustainability and the second on innovation. The 2018 CMAA Leader in Sustainability Award recognizes individuals or firms for outstanding leadership and best practices in sustainability in the construction management industry. The 2018 CMAA Chair's Award for Innovation recognizes creativity for developing new or improved processes, methods, systems, products, or services, and encourages others to do the same. This award is given to those who made innovation a priority among team members and encouraged reasonable and calculated risk-taking, and as a result, improved the delivery of a specific project or contributed to the transformation of the industry. 

“Massport’s Lean Implementation Strategies have advanced collaboration efforts between designers and contractors,” said Andrea S. Kenneth Orgel, CCM, President of Orgel Construction Management, will receive CMAA’s Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes a service provider member with a demonstrated record of meaningful/extraordinary contributions to the advancement of the CM profession.

David Ferrara, CCM, Director of Construction for the Maryland Transportation Authority, has been named to receive CMAA’s Distinguished Owner Award. This award recognizes an owner member who has made meaningful/extraordinary contributions to the advancement of professional construction/program management.

Pardis Pishdad-Bozorgi, PhD, Assistant Professor, School of Building Construction, Georgia Institute of Technology, has been named our Educator of the Year. This honor emphasizes excellence in teaching and recognizes a full-time educator for outstanding professional accomplishments and a commitment to construction management education. 

Eric Hirani, CCM, DBIA, LEED AP BD+C, President of Infinite Consulting Group, has been named CMAA’s Distinguished Young Professional. This award recognizes and celebrates a full-time professional for outstanding professional accomplishments and a commitment to the construction management industry early in his/her career. 

“Each of our award winners work hard to make a difference, and we commend each of them for their achievements and contributions to the construction industry,” states CMAA President and Chief Executive Officer Andrea S. Rutledge, CAE.

Alpha's Angelides Selected for Inaugural Bruce D'Agostino Award for Owner Outreach

McLean, VA, USA – The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) announced today that Philios Angelides, PE, F.SAME, FACEC will receive CMAA’sAngelides photo 2018 Bruce D’Agostino Award for Owner Outreach.

Angelides is President of Alpha Corporation, a multidisciplinary construction consulting firm providing engineering, program and construction management, project controls, and technology services.

“Phil has championed training and mentoring in CM/PM industry best practices for more than 20 years,” said Christopher J. Payne, PE, CCM, Chair, CMAA Board of Directors. “He has taken a leadership role in educating public and private owners on the value of professional construction management and has partnered with industry associations like CMAA, SAME, AACE and others encouraging them to do the same.”

Named in honor of CMAA’s former President & CEO, the Bruce D’Agostino Award for Owner Outreach recognizes demonstrated leadership by individuals or organizations in raising the bar of owner professionalism in the construction management industry. The award recognizes CMAA members who have educated or engaged owner organizations in ways that promote the construction management profession and the use of qualified construction managers.

“Phil is actively involved with the MillionWomenMentors program, a national program that aims to provide a million mentors for girls and women in STEM careers by 2019,” said CMAA President & CEO Andrea S. Rutledge, CAE. “He sets the bar high and I can think of no one more deserving than Phil for this award.”

Massport’s Sleiman Named CMAA’s Person of the Year

McLean, VA, USA – The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) has announced thatSam photo Houssam “Sam” Sleiman, PE, CCM, FCMAA has been named CMAA’s 2018 Person of the Year.

Sleiman is the Director of Capital Programs and Environmental Affairs (CP&EA) for the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport). In this capacity, Sam oversees development and delivery of Massport's capital programs, including construction at Logan International Airport, Boston's Seaport District and maritime facilities, Hanscom Field, and Worcester Airport.

“We are pleased to recognize Sam for his dedication to the construction industry, best-in-class service, and implementation of AEC best practices, especially those that push the boundaries of conventional project programming, procurement, design, construction, and commissioning,” states Christopher J. Payne, PE, CCM, Chair, CMAA Board of Directors.

The Person of the Year Award is given to an industry leader who has made significant contributions on behalf of the construction management industry. It is bestowed upon a member who possesses unparalleled leadership, high quality workmanship, and an outstanding record of accomplishment.  Presented on behalf of CMAA’s Board of Directors, this award recognizes an ongoing commitment to promoting and upholding the profession’s highest standards.
