It’s getting harder and harder to find qualified, diversified employees to fill positions in the construction industry. The situation is so dire that companies may even resort to enticing candidates from competing firms. The better solution is to develop a qualified workforce using efficient, targeted training that can benefit new and existing employees. This training method combines new presentation technology with useful information that will make new hires valuable on day one and better prepare current employees for the increasingly technology-focused construction industry. This presentation showcases various training approaches and explores why some are poorly executed and ineffective. One proven method for finding better workers is to explore a more diverse employee pool by recruiting from disadvantaged schools and neighborhoods, parole programs, and veterans’ organizations. If implemented skillfully, this innovative strategy could provide long-term benefits for the industry, reduce the potential risk of professional liability with an unskilled workforce, and provide employment opportunities to motivated employees.
