The Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach harnesses all the participants of a project team in a collaborative way to optimize results, maximize efficiencies, and increase value to the owner, through all phases of design, construction, operation, and maintenance. In the Design-Bid-Build (DBB) procurement model that many public agencies employ, one of the key players to a successful project, the general contractor, joins the team only after submitting a low-bid, well after all design decisions have been made. This session will explore techniques and approaches that can still be implemented during a DBB procurement to capture some of the benefits of the IPD approach.
