New Administration, New Playing Field: The Impact on False Claims and Compliance

False claims investigations were on the rise after the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding rolled out.  Now, with a new administration, some of the rules have changed. Firms embarking on public contracts face even larger risks, not the least of which is unintentionally running afoul of the False Claims Act. False claims are a genuine and serious concern, posing a major dilemma for many contractors. To address this issue, this program will provide cautionary tales, lessons learned, and best practices for government contract compliance and false claims avoidance.

Brian Waller - Partner, Peckar & Abramson

Brian Waller is Co-Chair of Peckar & Abramson’s White Collar, Regulatory Compliance & Investigations practice, and Co-chair of the firm’s Crisis Management team. With over twenty-five years of experience, Brian is an accomplished trial and appellate attorney who adeptly navigates the complexities of both white-collar criminal investigations and construction law. He represents corporations, construction companies, financial institutions and individuals in the areas of white-collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement and compliance, corporate internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation.


Jamie Sybert - Partner, HKA

Jamie Sybert has more than 25 years of experience in government contract cost accounting, pricing, business system compliance, and administration.  She has participated in investigations and mandatory disclosures with internal and external counsel. These have involved forensic accounting, employee interviews, research of alleged fraud or mischarging, and presentation of findings to company senior management and government officials.  Jamie has a broad background of advisory experience regarding compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and alleged non-compliance, and other government acquisition regulations. She has firsthand experience negotiating cost accounting practice changes, external restructuring proposals, termination settlement proposals (TSPs), and indirect cost rate agreements.
