BIM's Next Evolution: From Models to Building Information Management

Thursday, August 1
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Over the past two decades, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has solidified its place in the AEC industry by using technology to facilitate BIM-based contract documents, model coordination, and clash detection. The stage is set for the next phase of BIM’s evolution…the transition from vendor-centric traditional Building Information Modeling to Building Information Management…when owners take greater leadership by providing clear, concise, and consistent BIM requirements that can benefit all project stakeholders. This is owner-centric BIM.

Owner-centric BIM delivers advantages in project management, cost efficiency, quality control, and long-term asset management by providing:

  1. Enhanced Decision-making: informed decisions lead to more predictable outcomes.
  2. More Accurate Cost Estimates: help track actual costs throughout the project lifecycle.
  3. More Efficient Project Delivery.
  4. Higher Quality Projects: based on higher standards.
  5. Risk Mitigation: identify potential risks early.
  6. Sustainability and Energy Efficiency.
  7. Adaptability to Market Trends: adapt quickly to market changes and opportunities.
  8. Enhanced Communication and Collaboration: foster stronger stakeholder relationships that lead to smoother project execution.
  9. Long-Term Asset Management: ensure longer asset life, lower maintenance costs, and higher tenant satisfaction.
  10. Differentiation in a Competitive Market: offer advanced building features, efficiency, and technologies that appeal to modern tenants and buyers.
