Austin ISD's Rosedale School Modernization Project

The Rosedale School in Austin serves students ages 3-22 with severe special needs, including medically fragile children, providing tailored educational opportunities and instruction to increase their independence and experience a greater quality of life. Immediately upon project initiation, the AECOM team knew that the key to project success was understanding the end users and their specific needs. It was essential that the team understood the significant medical and/or behavior support needs of the students at Rosedale school before commencing the design and construction phase. Each team member spent time at the old school meeting students and staff, while observing learning processes and the struggle to adapt to the previous undersized, rundown building approximately two miles from the new location.
