McLean, VA - January 29, 2016 - David Eberly, Deputy Assistant Inspector General of the New Orleans Office of Inspector General, has become the 3,000th professional to earn the Certified Construction Manager designation from the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI).
Eberly is a long time CMAA member with more than 15 years of experience as a construction manager. He passed his certification exam on January 23.
"Both my former agency, HOV Services, and my current one, New Orleans Office of Inspector General, strongly encouraged me and supported my getting the CCM," Eberly said. Part of the mission of the New Orleans Inspector General is "to promote efficiency and effectiveness in the programs and operations of the New Orleans Office of Inspector General."
Eberly explained that he pursued the CCM "because I wanted to be part of the community that's establishing benchmarks for construction managers and the CM industry. I appreciate the rigorous certification process as a demonstration of professionalism, and I am looking forward to developing a comaraderie with other CCMs."
Eberly's certification comes as part of a surge of interest in the CCM since roughly 2012. Over the past four years, the number of new CCMs certified has grown each year, reaching an all-time record of 458 in 2015. The total number of CCMs has grown by 60 percent over the period 2012-2015.
"Owners are largely driving this strong growth, said CMAA President Bruce D'Agostino, CAE, FCMAA. "They are both encouraging their own in-house staff members to earn certification and increasingly preferring or insisting on CCMs leading their consultants' and contractors' project teams."
CMAA is optimistic that the ranks of CCMs will continue to grow. "It's a great time to be a CCM," he said. "Construction management has proved itself an integral part of the capital project equation. With the industry rebounding and more projects moving forward, the emphasis is on effective, accountable project delivery, and owners are turning to Certified CMs to deliver these qualities."
CMAA is dedicated to advancing professional construction and program management worldwide. Its membership is made up of over 15,000 public and private organizations, owners and individual practitioners. CMAA provides professional development, CCM certification, advocacy, and business opportunities to its members and the entire CM industry. CMAA's headquarters is located in McLean, VA, USA.
