Envision™ Sustainability Rating System & NYC Projects

Summary: The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) Envision™ tools are being used increasingly to guide project planning and design teams and meeting sustainability principles on infrastructure projects. This session will include a case study on the use of Envision by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) and covers the challenges of implementing this new approach within a large utility. In addition, a discussion of how Envision can be used to help address the evolving role of the CM in sustainable project delivery will be presented.

LEED V.4: The New Sustainability Challenges

Summary: LEED V.4 is here and this seminar reviews some of the new challenges that this new version of LEED will create for owners and CM’s. The session will review how CMs and LEED practitioners can better support an owner in implementing a LEED V.4 project and how much of what we already know about working with LEED will translate to LEED V.4. It reviews how our expectations of LEED v.3 Gold stacks up to the new LEED v.4 and how initial LEED V.4 pilot projects have fared to date.

Sustainable Remediation: Bringing the Triple Bottom Line to Environmental Cleanups

Summary: Environmental remediation is often a necessary and fundamental step in the project development process. While often thought of as inherently environment-friendly, remediation efforts have tended to be cost-intensive and disruptive, with big carbon footprints.

Environmental remediation approaches are now being challenged to factor in the "triple bottom line", balancing regulatory cleanup requirements, social impact, and cost.

The Public Building Commission of Chicago used new sustainable remediation tools to great benefit in a program that developed green buildings on environmentally challenged sites in economically blighted neighborhoods, and leveraged state and federal funding to make it happen. The program created lasting social and economic value and helped forward the development of the Greener Cleanup process.
