Construction Manager in Training (CMIT)

CMAA's program for YOU!

CMIT program: To fast track and help you to get your CCM

The CMIT designation promotes...

  • A commitment to professional development and shows employers, clients, and co-workers that you are committed to acquiring the knowledge and capabilities of becoming a professional, practicing construction manager
  • A competence in construction management practice early in your career
  • A knowledge of the practices, procedures and principles represented by a CCM and professional construction managers

The CMIT program will help you grow and

develop your career...

  • You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the foundations of Construction Management through self-study and an assessment:
  • CMITs study the Capstone publication, A History of the Practices and Procedures of Construction Management, now available online
  • CMITs are assessed on the Capstone text now available online

  • A discounted CMAA Membership: special pricing on products, events, workshops, webinars and networking opportunities
  • Recognition on CMAA's website

  • An industry recognized designation of CMIT initials following your name (Joe Smith, CMIT)

How the CMIT program works...

  • The CMIT program is designed into two stages: The Capstone Assessment and the Mentor-Protege Relationship
  • The Capstone Assessment component of the program lays the foundation of knowledge and instills an understanding of the history of the construction management practices and procedures.  CMITS review the Capstone text and then must receive a passing grade of 80% to attain the CMIT designation.

  • The Mentor-Protege Relationship is the on-going and key aspect of the CMIT program.  Mentors provide CMITs continuous guidance and support to ensure CMITs are on the right track to obtain the pre-requisite experiences to qualify for CCM certification.

Mentors and proteges create and manage development plans.  As a CMIT, you may choose any CCM you currently work with, or you can access CMAA’s growing list of over 60 qualified volunteer mentors to find a CCM mentor in your area.   To guide this process, CMAA provides mentors and proteges with the CMIT Mentor Program Guide.
