CMIT Designation
Construction Manager in Training (CMIT)
Your sure track to becoming a Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
The CMIT program helps prepare you to earn your CCM!
Benefits of CMIT program include:
- A no-time wasted, CMAA approved plan to aid in the pursuit of CCM
- Networking opportunities
- The Mentor Program: Ideally, you’ll be paired with a mentor from within your own institution or organization. CMAA Mentor Volunteers, who are CCMs, are also available. (Mentors must fill out an application for consideration)
- CMAA Membership, including all discounts on products and services and member perks
- Designation of the CMIT initials following your name (Joe Smith, CMIT)
The CMIT program is ideal for:
- New and recent graduates of engineering, construction management or university programs
- Second semester Junior college students
- Experienced professionals just embarking on the path to become professional construction managers
- Mid-career individuals who are new to the profession
- Working graduate degree candidates
Who should apply?
To qualify for CMIT, an applicant must show one of these combinations of experience and education:
- Bachelors or master degree or status as a senior in a construction management or closely related degree program at an accredited college or university*
- Associate’s degree or certificate-level professionals with degrees in construction management or a closely related field, plus two years of general design/construction experience
- Four years of general design/construction experience without a degree in construction management or a closely related field
* While college seniors are encouraged to apply, the CMIT designation is awarded only after completion of undergraduate degree
How to get your CMIT:
- Meet minimum education requirements listed above
- Submit the formal CMIT application, current resume and a program payment of $195 non-member/$60 member by e-mailing ddoran@cmaanet.org, faxing (703) 356-6388 or mailing: CMAA, Attn: CMIT Application, 7926 Jones Branch Drive, suite 800, McLean, VA 22102-3303
- CMIT Payment Form
- Complete the CMIT Capstone course, "The History of Construction Management Practices and Procedures"
- Score at least 80 percent on the Capstone course examination
CMITs are expected to aggressively pursue CCM certification; consequently, the CMIT designation lasts for no longer than five years.
The CMIT designation:
- Shows employers, clients, your peers, and the general public that you are committed to acquiring the knowledge and capabilities of becoming a professional, practicing construction manager
- Provides a structured path for professional development while having the CMIT designation
- Demonstrates competence in construction management practice early in your career
- Increases your awareness as a CMIT to the body of knowledge and principles represented by a CCM and professional construction managers
CMIT Costs
The $195 non-member/$60 member program payment includes:
- CMIT/Capstone text and assessment
- One year membership to CMAA, which can be renewed for two additional years at $25 per year
- CMIT pin
