McLean, VA - January 14, 2016 - The Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI) set a new record in 2015 by recognizing 458 new Certified Construction Managers (CCMs). Based on the current pace of new applications, CMCI expects to surpass that number in 2016.
CMCI, an affiliate of CMAA, had 105 more CCM-earners in 2015 than in 2014, and 309 more than in 2012, which is when the yearly total began its recent surge. The number of CCMs earned directly correlates with the growing number of applicants, which has increased annually since 2012.
The CCM program began in 1996 as a way to recognize excellence in the construction management profession. It took 12 years to reach its first thousand CCMs, but CMCI then reached 2,000 CCMs in only five years. Since then, the program has added an additional 900 CCMs in three years. CMAA anticipates that the program will reach 3,000 CCMs before March, 2016.
"CM certification requires applicants to meet some pretty lofty standards. For that reason, owners know that by hiring a CCM, they're hiring one of the most proven professionals in the industry. On the other hand, the CCM helps experienced construction managers substantially raise their career ceilings. Becoming certified is an important career move. The growing interest in the certification would indicate that many CMs agree" said CMAA president & CEO, Bruce D'Agostino.
CMCI is the governing body that oversees the CCM program. Although CMCI is funded by CMAA, it operates as an independent entity. The CCM program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under the International Organization for Standardization's ISO 17024. It is also endorsed by the Construction Industry Institute of the University of Texas, and a growing number of owners are recognizing the CCM by making it a preference or requirement in their bid solicitations.
CMAA is dedicated to advancing professional construction and program management worldwide. Its membership is made up of over 14,000 public and private organizations, owners and individual practitioners. CMAA provides professional development, CCM certification, advocacy, and business opportunities to its members and the entire CM industry. CMAA's headquarters is located in McLean, VA, USA.
