CMAA Partners With NSPE

            Alexandria, VA — CMAA recently executed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). Both organizations agreed to cooperate in a mutually beneficial manner to promote professionalism and excellence in the management of the construction process throughout the construction industry.  The organizations will also collaborate in endeavors that will build and enhance a relationship between the two organizations.

The goal of the CMAA/NSPE partnership is to develop current and future construction engineering and management professionals to broaden the range of professional abilities that are needed to address 21^st century challenges.  CMAA and NSPE will work to reach out to colleagues in the construction community to provide education and networking tools to help them advance their construction engineering and management careers, while strengthening our nation’s infrastructure. CMAA and NSPE will also encourage joint membership in CMAA and NSPE.

Some of the objectives of this agreement include:

• Endorse and publicize construction engineering and construction management career paths encompassing both CMAA and NSPE professional development programs;
• Promote the use of construction project delivery methods that are best suited to the individual project.
• Develop a coordinated strategy for improving the public’s knowledge of the importance of using credentialed construction professionals such as professional engineers, certified construction managers, and certified engineering technicians to build and maintain safe and sustainable facilities;
• Promote the utilization of credentialed construction professionals (certified technicians, certified construction managers and professional engineers) to build and maintain safe and sustainable facilities: and
• Participate as exhibitors, cosponsors and presenters at local and national conferences promoting increased understanding of construction delivery methods, marketing for the construction industry and related professional certification and development programs.

Signing the agreement at NSPE's Alexandria, Virginia headquarters were the presidents of each organization, Blake V. Peck, CCM, PE, and Howard N. Blitman, PE, F.NSPE. "This represents a unique opportunity for CMAA to work with a complementary organization that shares our commitment to professionalism and excellence", remarked CMAA's Peck at the signing ceremony.
